About Us

Independent and informational. Every property named here is operated by a third party; nothing on this site constitutes a reservation, an offer or an endorsement.

Four sections on who writes this guide, how the entries are put together, and the limits the guide has set for itself.

01

Why this guide exists and who it is written for

This guide exists because property descriptions and property selling have become hard to tell apart. A traveller reading about a hotel these days is usually also being shown a figure, a calendar and a checkout counter. The guide is a deliberate alternative: a place where the description is the whole point, and nothing else is asked of the reader in return.

It is written for people in the early stages of thinking about a trip — the stage where you are still forming a picture of the kind of place you would like to stay in, and where a clear, comparable description is worth more than a promotion. That reader may never book through any particular channel; the guide is built for the reading, not for the transaction that might follow it somewhere else.

The audience is also assumed to be a careful one: a reader who notices when a description is doing sales work, who checks where a page sends them before trusting what it says, and who values a source that admits its own limits. The writing style — calm, observational, unhurried — is aimed at exactly that reader, and at nothing more urgent.

02

How properties are described

Every entry applies the same categories, in the same order: the setting, the rooms, the dining, and the surroundings. The setting comes first because it does the most work for a stay — a lake front, a prairie horizon, a mountain valley — and because it is the one thing no two properties share. The rooms are described by their character rather than their count, and the dining notes focus on the ordinary hours of a day on the property.

The entries are written strictly from what each property is: its location, its category, its star class, and the visible facts of the place. That is a deliberately narrow source list. It keeps the writing honest, because there is no press kit to pad and no amenities database to mine. If a fact is not part of the property's own record, it is not in the entry.

The consistent structure is what makes the twelve entries comparable at all. A reader can hold two properties in mind side by side — both openings on their settings, both middles on their rooms — and let the difference speak without re-reading either page. The format is the same on every card, on every catalog page, without exception.

03

What this site does not do

No bookings. The site contains no booking button, no basket, no date picker and no room-selection screen of any kind, and it is not connected to a reservation system. Nothing on this page can turn a reading into a reservation, because nothing on this page is meant to.

No payments, and no money figures alongside them. There is no number followed by a currency symbol, no "from" figure and no promotional language anywhere in the guide. A description of a place does not need a sum attached to it, and keeping money out of the page removes the most common way a reading page quietly becomes a sales page.

No availability, and no ranking. The site does not say whether a room is free, and it does not order the twelve entries against one another. The properties appear in the order each catalog page assigns them, and that order carries no meaning of quality. A reader who wants a current answer on availability has one reliable place to find it: the property's own official listing, which is where every entry ends.

04

Independence

This site is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by any property named on it. The twelve properties are real businesses operated by other people, and the relationship between this guide and each of them is limited to description. No property has paid for its entry, approved its entry, or asked to appear, and none of them controls what the guide writes.

The independence runs the other way as well. The guide does not claim to speak for any property, and where its words and a property's own page disagree, the property's page prevails. That is why every entry links out: the guide's job is to form a picture, and the property's own listing is the authority on everything that changes — rooms, dining, policies, the day-to-day.

The same principle is stated, word for word, at the top of every page on the site: this is an independent and informational guide, every property is operated by a third party, and nothing here constitutes a reservation, an offer or an endorsement. It is not a legal footer that can be scrolled past — it is the premise the whole site is built on, and it is repeated on each page for exactly that reason.
